Projects

WIP #1
Ahhhh, poetry. I’ve always been dramatic and high-strung poetic, but I didn’t didn’t get serious about writing poetry until the Fall of 2010. I have been hooked ever since. I completed my first Poem-A-Day challenge in April and learned a great deal about the process during that time. After making my debut in the ever-distinguished Blinn Literary Journal, my work has appeared in the Wilderness House Literary Journal and will also be included in two anthologies this winter.
Update: The most recent rejection letters have included personal notes from the editors, informing me that my submissions were good enough to advance to second and third reads, but were eliminated in the final cut. I’m kind of bummed about it. A rejection letter is still a rejection letter, and getting close just makes it more painful, right? But I guess it’s also a sign that I’m improving. Maybe I’ll try a workshop or conference next year. I’ve never done either so I wonder if they’re truly helpful or just a massive waste of time and money.
WIP #2
I began writing a children’s novel in September 2009. After putting it on the back burner, I hope to knock it out this year.
Update: It’s still on the back burner. :/
WIP #3
Gettin’ my edumacation. Okay, this is not a writing-related Work in Progress, but it is never-ending. Many years ago, I followed in the esteemed footsteps of Robert Frost, William Faulkner, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Kanye West and dropped out of college. One marriage (still going strong!) and two kids later, I decided to go back to school. The past few years have been a lot like Groundhog’s Day (you know, that awful movie that the hub absolutely loves?).
Update: I’m knee-deep in my first semester at Texas A&M University and life is busier than ever. Whoop!
